Hotel Steigenberger Esplanade Jena Germany with DEGW Deutschland Architekten (in collaboration with IFB Dr Braschel Planungsgruppe).

The new 180 bedroom 4* hotel and conference centre forms a cornerstone in the regeneration of the Carl Zeiss factory in this famous former East German University town. A curved bedroom wing defines the circus in the new Goethe arcade and a historic hexagonal tower is retained to mark the entrance to the arcade and form part of the the new western frontage to Carl Zeiss Platz. The different plan geometries are taken up in a full height triangular atrium traversed with lightweight bridges with panoramic glass lifts.
