NAPP Pharmaceuticals HQ Cambridge with AukettSwanke
Competition winning scheme for one of the world leaders in pain management and drug delivery mechanisms. Sited adjacent to NAPP’s existing offices, three new office and research buildings enclose and form a colonnaded south facing courtyard that contrasts formal seating terraces and pools with a reed planted attenuation lake. The recessed ground floor around the courtyard provides a covered route between the buildings. Weathered ‘Corten’ steel stair towers anchor the building and bookend the elevations. Plantrooms are enveloped with back lit cast glass channels providing a distinctive feature along the Cambridge ring road.
The interior space is characterised by clerestory lit atria that give a bright and airy feel to the workspace. The office fit-out creates a modern, flexible setting for a variety of work settings from individual focused work, to project collaborations and informal break-out. Project completed 2009. British Council for Offices Regional Award 2010. Will was associate design director responsible for the concept and technical design.
